Welcome!

The Glenville Hill Fire District No. 8 is located on the western edge of Schenectady County New York. GHFD8 provides fire prevention services, firefighting, search and rescue, and emergency medical services to our community as well as assisting our neighboring Districts/Departments.  We are situated in an area comprised mainly of suburban communities, agricultural use, coupled with low-density development.  Our community is a blend of residential, commercial, farming, educational, and religious occupancies.  The Fire District encompasses roughly 11.2 square miles and serves over 4,000-plus residents residing in 550 homes, one church and an elementary school with 600-plus students and staff.

The District is comprised of 360+ acres of heavily wooded, forever wild town park land.  GHFD8 is home to a mature community where the senior population continues to grow.  We support critical infrastructure within the Fire District that includes power distribution sub-station, municipal water system buildings, pump stations and storage tanks, a natural gas pipeline, cellular/two-way communication towers and high-tension power transmission lines.  Running through our Fire District are several state highways that carry high volumes of commercial vehicle traffic and are key transportation routes.  GHFD8 is long viewed as a bedroom community of the Capital region of N.Y.S., with a notable pastoral and agricultural flavor across much of our District.  It is also a community of distinct, well-kept micro neighborhoods of predominately single-family homes on large, dense, wooded parcels.  As an area comprised of commuter's homes, it is crisscrossed with county and state highways that run from local roads to busy, principle arterials.  As a tax based municipal entity, the entire operating budget of GHFD8 is provided through property taxes levied against the residents of this rural District.  Our staff consists of 21 volunteer firefighters and N.Y.S. Certified EMT's.
